Middle School Elections
Student Council Middle School Officer elections will be held in the Fall. The completed application needs to be turned into Mrs. Keaton by the assigned due date. No late applications will be accepted.
High School Elections
Student Council officers will be elected in September through the following process.

Committee Chairmen will be selected by application and interview panel in the fall.

Eligibility
1. Maintain grades above 75 each six weeks.
2. Maintain a grade of "E" or "S" in citizenship on the report card at the end of each six weeks.
3. Have all homework completed on time.
4. Have all classwork completed on time.
5. Strive to be well organized.
6. Have the ability to work well with others.
7. Maintain 95% or school attendance.
8. Be punctual to school, class, and Council meetings.
9. Attend 90% of Student Council meetings.

How to Apply
1. Carefully read the information below and follow the directions on the application.
2. Complete the Student Council application. The completed application must be returned to Mrs. Keaton at the YWLA by Friday, September 4th by 3:50pm. Late applications will not be accepted.

Election Process

· Candidates may campaign September 8th-11th.
- Students may campaign with ONE POSTER to be hung in the YWLA Café and ONE ADDITIONAL FORM OF APPROVED CAMPAIGN MATERIAL. Approved items to campaign with are as follows:
- Pencils
- Buttons
- Flyers
- Talk to classmates
- Any other items must be approved by Mrs. Keaton BEFORE distributing.
- Talking to classmates is the best form of campaigning.
- All posters and flyers must be approved by Mrs. Keaton with her signature before being hung. Posters may not be placed on painted walls. If flyers are passed out, any left behind on tables or floors must be picked up by the candidate.
Food in any form- before, during or after school- is NOT allowed. Anyone who passes out food or candy will be disqualified from running.
· All campaign materials must be removed and discarded following elections.

VIDEOTAPED ELECTION SPEECHES:
All candidates running for an elected position must give a short one to two minute speech that will be videotaped by Mrs. Keaton and shown during advisory on Election Day. Students must bring a written draft of their speech to Mrs. Keaton at the time of filming. This is an opportunity to introduce yourself and explain why you are the best candidate for the job. Do NOT spend your time negatively degrading your opponent or making promises you cannot keep.
- Speeches should include the following:
- Why are you running?
- What good qualities do you have?
- Why should people vote for you?
- Written draft of speech must be turned into Mrs. Keaton by Tuesday, September 8th.
